The Montseny foothills rise like a green sentinel above Girona, and our E-Bike Safari offers a full-day adventure through its winding trails and quiet roads. This isn’t a ride for the faint-hearted—with 63 kilometers and nearly 2000 meters of elevation gain, it demands stamina and focus—but the electric assistance turns even the steepest climbs into a manageable challenge. The terrain is a mix of smooth tarmac and paved greenways, perfect for those who want a taste of rugged Catalonia without sacrificing comfort. The route suits confident riders looking for a day of exploration, where the rewards are as much about the scenery as the effort.

We begin our journey along the Salt riverside promenade, the morning light glinting off the Ter River as we warm up with a gentle stretch. The first highlight comes early: a visit to the Mare de Déu del Mont sanctuary, where the views stretch out over the rolling foothills and the distant Montgrí Massif. The Massif dominates the landscape, its rugged peaks a constant companion as we ride wide, traffic-free stretches that feel like a private road through the countryside. The route winds past vineyards and olive groves, the air thick with the scent of wild herbs crushed under our tires. At every turn, there’s another photo opportunity—whether it’s the play of sunlight on the limestone cliffs or the patchwork of fields below.

A mid-ride stop at Can Roca corner bar is a highlight in itself, where we pause to savor strong Catalan coffee and buttery pastries. The atmosphere here is unpretentious, a perfect break before tackling the more demanding climbs of the Montseny foothills. The electric assistance makes light work of the ascents, but there’s still a satisfying sense of achievement as we crest each hill. The final leg of the ride takes us past the surreal towers of Púbol, a striking architectural contrast against the natural landscape. By the time we return to Girona, the legs might be tired, but the memories of this diverse, challenging, and endlessly beautiful ride will linger long after.
